291- Saw II

The Dudes refuse to sit and listen despite multiple warnings and assurances with 2005's Saw II.  Tobin Bell is a great actor, and every scene he's in is interesting.  Corrupt Cops are a blight on our society, and this movie makes that clear.  There's more than one unpredictable twist, and they even make logical sense.  Somehow, all this doesn't make for a good movie.  But we're still here to have fun, so please join us!

The Dudes learn to choose their words carefully, lest their pupils become Fascists with 1948's Rope.  One of Alfred Hitchcock's many classics, this claustrophobic thriller is a mystery for the characters instead of the viewer.  But the suspense is still palpable, because as much as you want Brandon and Phillip to be caught, you can't help but feel tension as the clues pile up.  And if you decide to study Nietzsche, please know going in that his ideas are sick and wrong.

The Dudes are dropped into France to take on debit with 2009's Inglorious Basterds.  Quentin Tarantino's first Revisionist film tackles the end of World War II, and other than the expected QT style, the movie's best feature is an international cast that gets the majority of the screen time.  It's some of his best work, and it's always great to watch Fascists get taken out with such brutality.

It's thought provoking, entertaining, and delivers a somber message about choices, consequences, and how we react to them. It's also an interesting time capsule of early post-911 New York City. A must watch highly recommended by both Dudes.
