When a person's life becomes a parade of misery, their faith in God is tested. And when your local clergy and even loved ones seem to hate your guts for no good reason, the only refuge is.........You know what? We don't know, and we're not permitted to know for reasons we've been told we could never comprehend. So join us for a discussion about a truly great movie by two American Masters.

The Dudes analyze cinematic tofu with 2001's "Life As A House", directed by Irwin Winkler, starring Kevin Kline, Kristin Scott Thomas and Hayden Christensen. When a person knows their death is imminent, they tend to develop immunity to life's inconsequential nonsense, which ordinarily would be relatable. But when every imaginable storytelling cliche' is employed, it becomes harder and harder to truly sympathize with what should be universally appreciated. Join us for this R-rated Hallmark Hall of Fame feature.

The Dudes tackle censorship and religious hypocrisy with 2000's "Quills", directed by Philip Kaufman, starring Geoffrey Rush and Kate Winslet. Though the developed world seemingly enjoys freedom of expression today, if we look closer we realize that the careful management of art and information is about as bad today as it was in the time of the Marquis de Sade. Its not an easy subject, buts its an important one that affects us all.

The Dudes machete their way through Spanish moss with 1997's "Eve's Bayou", directed by Kasi Lemmons, starring Lynn Whitfield and Samuel L. Jackson. When we reflect on any experience, did it always happen exactly as our memory says it did? Can our own minds be characterized as unreliable on something we're damned sure about? The Dudes don't fully know either, but join us anyway for a hidden gem from the great decade that was the 1990s!

The Dudes come hard after some very famous people with 1992's "Bram Stoker's Dracula", directed by Francis Ford Coppola, starring Gary Oldman and Winona Ryder. Is introducing suburban children to the magic of goth culture enough to save this sumptuous, practical effects-driven re-telling of Stoker's legend? Join the Dudes as they come to a pitiless verdict! (At least Scott.)

Coming to terms with grief and loss dominates 1997's "The Sweet Hereafter", directed by Atom Egoyan, starring Ian Holm and Sarah Polley. This story about the aftermath of a school bus crash in a small town features excellent performances and a particularly outstanding use of a non-linear timeline. Its not fun, but its still great.
